1. Go on a History Walk
Wander through the colourful streets of Fontainhas and dive into its rich Portuguese history. Many guided walks take you through heritage homes, historical landmarks, and stories of the area’s colonial past.

3. Visit Chapels and Churches
Fontainhas is home to beautiful places of worship that reflect Portuguese architectural elegance.
Our recommendation:
- The St. Sebastian Chapel is tucked away in the lanes of Fontainhas. Built in 1818, it is known for its unique crucifix with Christ’s eyes open, believed to hold mystical powers. It has limited visiting hours from 9:30 AM - 1 PM to 4:30 PM - 6 PM, so plan accordingly. Do not use this place of worship for pictures and videos!
- The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, built in 1619, is a stunning white structure with a distinctive zigzagging stairway inspired by Bom Jesus de Braga, Portugal. It houses the historic Augustinian bell, rescued from the ruins of the Church of Our Lady of Grace, weighing 2250 kg and considered the second-largest in Goa. This church has been seen as the backdrop for many Bollywood movies and is great for taking pictures!
4. Bar Hop, Cafe Hop, or Food Hop
Fontainhas has become a food capital of sorts in Goa! There are numerous, unique, culinary experiences to choose from. From brilliant regional food to international cuisines, there’s something for everyone!
Our recommendations (all within 3 mins walking distance):
- Chakos Kitchen and Bar for Kerala homestyle food and cocktails (you’re already here :))
Hop on to:
- Relax Inn for Goan snacks and tea stop
- Larder and Folk for a cafe and bakery fix
- Miski for a quick drink and Goan bar bites
- Ashok for Chicken Xacuti
- Miguels for elevated fusion food and cocktails
